Cobalt website

Cobalt is a digital publishing solution launched in late 2016, delivering content to web pages, mobile apps, news platforms and social media. Its launch site had an awkward job: the product’s whole promise is a clutter-free workspace, so the site had to demonstrate that rather than claim it.

Context

Cobalt gives authors and designers a clutter-free editing space, with powerful tools and media resources one click away, and delivers to a full range of digital destinations.

A launch site for an authoring tool is a proof by demonstration. If the page is busy, the claim is dead on arrival, and no amount of copy about simplicity recovers it. So restraint here was the argument, not the style.

What I did

Team work again: design concept, UX and UI, plus development support and the HTML implementation of the templates, published through the proprietary CMS.

Launch sites have a particular pressure. The date is fixed by the product, not by the design, so the useful skill is knowing which decisions can still be changed late and which have to be settled early. Structure and components early; copy and imagery late.

The website.
